Hordyi typeface is inspired by the book covers and posters of Ukrainian graphic designer Sviatoslav Hordynskyi, who worked in the 1920s. His work reflects the influence of German Constructivism. It is evident in the geometric letterforms and monospaced structural logic.

Hordyi is not a revival of Hordynskyi’s original lettering, but a contemporary reinterpretation informed by the visual language of 1980s computer code. This is a combination of historical reference and digital aesthetics results.

The letterforms are highly versatile, extending beyond typography into a set of pictograms, including a human figure, a horse, and a dog.

Hordyi is balancing on the edge of readability. Despite it is maintains a strong, self-sufficient character. It is particularly effective in minimalist design contexts and can be used for posters, book covers, logos, headlines, visual identities, packaging, and other designs.

The typeface was designed by Anna Kovalenko in 2023.
